Faculty

Dr. Larry Medsker, Data Science and Physics, has overall responsibility for the project including oversight of student recruiting, mentoring, advising, work with our evaluation expert, and manage the budget. Dr. Medsker has experience managing both STEM education and basic research projects, including a previous Noyce Scholarship program at Siena College. He is currently the Director of the GW M.S. program in Data Science and a Co-Director of the GWTeach program. Prof. Medsker works in physics education, but for the past 25 years his research and teaching have been mostly in computer science and artificial intelligence. Prior to GW he was Dean of the School of Science at Siena College. He has extensive experience working with students and faculty in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics.

Dr. LaKeisha McClary, Chemistry, oversees the mentoring program, as well as being a faculty mentor for juniors and seniors who become part of the GW Noyce program. She has primary responsibility for recruiting chemistry and biology students who match the Noyce Scholars program requirements. She also co-directs the STEM Learning Assistant program (along with Prof. Sikorski) and will mentor Noyce students who participate in the LA program.

Dr. Daniel Ullman, Mathematics, is former Associate Dean in the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences and is Professor of Mathematics. He will take primary responsibility for recruiting and mentoring mathematics majors in the Noyce program. Prof. Ullman is also a member of the faculty team that directs the NSF-funded GW Joint Undergraduate Mathematics and Physics (JUMP) program.

Dr. Tiffany-Rose Sikorski, Education, conducts research in STEM learning and science education curriculum development. She develops sustainable relationships with local education groups such as DC Public Schools, Carnegie Academy for Science Education, and Smithsonian Institution. Dr. Sikorski has experience with science teacher professional development, curriculum design, and associated research in STEM learning. She is a co-director for the GW LA program.

Dr. Jonathon Grooms, Education, serves as the primary liaison with the GW education school teacher preparation programs, including the GWTeach program. He assists with student placement and relates to the DC and other school systems who partner with our GW Noyce program.

Dr. Jerry Feldman, Physics, participates on the management team, helps make decisions about implementing the GW Noyce Scholars program, works with Physics faculty to identify undergraduates who match the Noyce Scholars program requirements, and leads the summer recruiting efforts.

Dr. Curtis Pyke, Education, helps manage training grants and research projects related to GW Noyce, and he has collaborated with the math department on a prior Math and Science Partnership. He participates in the Noyce management team, student advising and mentoring, and helps make decisions on the implementation of the GW Noyce program.
